Supplier diversity

Working with diverse owned businesses

Certified Minority and Women Business Enterprise discuss how doing business with corporates create social and economic value to the communities where we live and operate at the 2017 Supplier Diversity Summit in Chicago.

bp’s commitment to supplier diversity is aligned with the company’s commitment to America.

As a part of the US Diversity and Inclusion Framework for Action, bp has a clear ambition to increase supplier diversity across its business operations. This is inherently linked to bp’s wider ambition on responsible business and to improve people’s lives in the communities we work within as one of the three focus areas in the sustainability framework. bp’s supplier diversity work will go a long way toward helping us build a stronger, better, more competitive company with America’s changing demographics.
The company has spent more than $12.8 billion with over 1,100 diverse and small business enterprises since 2010 and was one of the first major corporations to create a formal program to increase purchases with minority- and women-owned businesses.
This investment helps the communities where bp operates by boosting economic development while supporting jobs and local employers.
The company is working toward achieving $1 billion in annual spend with certified diverse business enterprises in the U.S.
In 2018 and 2019, bp America was named one of America’s Top Corporations for Women’s Business Enterprises (WBE) and inducted into the Hall of Fame by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC). Additionally in 2020, the US Hispanic Chamber of Commerce named bp Corporation of the Year. These awards recognize corporations with supplier diversity processes that have worked especially hard to sustain and bring qualified and competitive M/WBEs into their supply chains.
